Various upgrades, downgrades, improvements, and modifications are contemplated
for SURVEY LAND YOURSELF. If you would like to be a part of this, then you
must become a registered collaborator.
I need help in testing various hardware, devising algorithms, and poofreading.
This version was originally written in GW-BASIC, and later modified with
QuickBASIC 4.5 and compiled. I can supply the GW-BASIC source if you cannot
handle the compiled version (it doesn't much like DOS versions before 3.3).
All source code is available to other programmers (send me something
interesting which YOU wrote).
Three daughters are planned:
DEEDPLT. This deletes all portions concerned with creating a new survey.
It deals only with plotting someone else's land description.
DEED PLOT is now up. It incorporates many of the improvements below. It will
read any data produced by this program.
SURVEY LAND YOURSELF. The present bag.
SCIENTIFIC SURVEYING. 3-D surveying, backsights, multiple instrument
readings, precision, multiple loop closures, area, volume, star shots, &c.
Graphics modes. BASIC purports to support EGA video modes, but I have no way
of testing this. VGA has no standards; each brand has its own driver for each
brand of software. Even Microsoft won't touch it. Actually, the problem isn't
no standards, it's too many standards.
Printer support. I need a copy of the bitmap graphics commands (from the
technical manual) for your printer, and a tester.
Instrument & program default parameters, user ID, &c will be put in their own
file.
The textfiles will be rewritten. An attempt will be made to draw diagrams in
the text, rather than require CAVEMAP. The present state of the art in
generically combining text and graphics is abyssal, with lots of 4-H.
A hypertext version may be attempted.
Examples will be added, modified, and\or deleted.
A default test mode for CAVEMAP will draw illustrations for the text.
An input translator will import a data file in goofus format.
An export translator will export to a data file in goofus format.
A sectional map routine will allow printing of large maps on several pages.
